Project Overview

In September 2016, Global Brigades completed a new water system in the community of La Corneta in collaboration with local NGO, AVODEC. This system provides clean water to 415 beneficiaries.

La Corneta, Nicaragua

Before Global Brigades’ arrival in La Corneta, the community all shared two wells and had to walk, carrying containers of water back to their homes. The well water was not apt for human consumption and community members did not always treat the water in their homes. A government project that was well based, was begun, but abandoned due to technical problems a few years prior to Global Brigades presence in the community.

Water System Solution

Utilizing an older, already existing well, Global Brigades, with almost 1,000 volunteers, was able to partner with local Nicaraguan NGO, AVODEC to construct a new water system for the entire community of La Corneta in 2016. The system consists of a well, pump, a new storage tank, distribution network, household connections, and a Water Council to operate, maintain and administrate the system.
