Project Overview

In 2016, Global Brigades completed a new water system in the community of Pueblo Nuevo in collaboration with the local community members. This system provides water to 552 people in 102 households.

Pueblo Nuevo, Panama

The community of Pueblo Nuevo uses an aqueduct as its water system. It brings water through small PVC pipes from the source (20km away) to both Pueblo Nuevo and the neighboring community of Arimae. There are many water shortages that occur and generally, there is water only once per day.  Another issue faced by the community is water pressure, which at times can be very low. The community has seen times where they could go almost three months without any water.

Water System Solution

To improve the conditions of clean water access and health in Pueblo Nuevo, a water system was constructed. With the support of brigaders, the local team began working with pickaxes, shovels, and spikes to break the soil and dig trenches. After that pipe was laid and covered, the team made sure that the pipelines went all throughout the community. After that,  pipelines were laid to connect to individual households. A final check on the quality of the water tanks was done as well.
