Project Overview

In 2019, Global Brigades completed a new water system in the community of Sierra Morena in collaboration with the local municipal government. This system provides water to 468 beneficiaries.

Sierra Morena, Nicaragua

In Sierra Morena, there was a gravity fed water system which supplied only one-third of the community with water. Women and children from the community had to walk several meters to get water in buckets of 20 liters and carry it on the top of their heads back to their homes. This caused children and old people to get water-borne diseases because there wasn’t a potable water system in the community.

Water System Solution

To improve the conditions of clean water access and health in Sierra Morena, a water system was constructed. This system was a mixed water system composed of 6 miles of pipeline, a storage concrete tank, and a concrete dam to collect clean water. This system will be connected to 117 households.
